A Comparison of the Methods of the Suffragists and the Suffragettes There were two main groups in Britain during the early 20th century who were both fighting for the same cause, women’s suffrage. Although in the end they both wanted the same outcome, they went about trying to win the vote in completely different ways. the first group to be established lead by Millicent Fawcett were the suffragists, they were made up of mainly middle class well educated women, and the suffragists believed the best way to get the vote was through peaceful tactics such as petitions and peaceful marches. So they believed that they needed to do something different they chose to try and gain suffrage by any means possible whether it was lega l or illegal, as they felt any actions were justifiable in their fight for the suffrage they felt women deserved. A significant example of this is when Emmeline’s daughter christabel spat in a policeman’s face, she was subsequently arrested tried and sentenced to a custodial sentence which is what she wanted as it gained huge publicity for their cause but it was bad publicity society in general was outraged at what this woman had done. They would create petitions, hand out leaflets, they would politely ask MP’s to attend their lobbies and meetings and listen to their thoughts. Moses was a Hebrew (Jewish) child who was adopted by Pharoahs daughter and raised as an Egyptian. He is, nevertheless, faithful to his roots. In the long run, he delivers his people, the Jews, from slavery in Egypt. In the book of Exodus, he is left in a basket in a clump of reeds (bulrushes), but he is never abandoned. The Story of Moses in the Bulrushes The story of Moses starts in Exodus 2:1-10. By the end of Exodus 1, the pharaoh of Egypt (perhaps Ramses II) had decreed that all the Hebrew boy babies were to be drowned at birth. But when Yocheved, Moses mother, gives birth she decides to hide her son. After a few months, the baby is too big for her to hide safely, so she decides to place him in a caulked wicker basket in a strategic spot in the reeds that grew along the sides of the Nile River (often referred to as bulrushes), with the hope that he will be found and adopted. To ensure the babys safety, Mosess sister Miriam watches from a hiding place nearby. The babys crying alerts one of the pharaohs daughters who takes the baby. Moses sister Miriam watches in hiding but comes out when it is clear the princess is planning to keep the child. She asks the princess if she would like a Hebrew midwife. The princess agrees and so Miriam arranges to have the real mother get paid to nurse her own child who now lives among the Egyptian royalty. She had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews children. 7 Then his sister said to Pharaohs daughter, Should I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you? 8 Pharaohs daughter said to her, Go. The maiden went and called the childs mother. 9 Pharaohs daughter said to her, Take this child away, and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages. The woman took the child, and nursed it. 10 The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaohs daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, and said, Because I drew him out of the water. The baby left in a river story is not unique to Moses. The increase of population puts strain on our nation by finding diplomatic solutions to food, materials and space. The amount of food we would have to produce to feed the growing population of the U. S. would create problems. Our resource base has started shrinking rapidly throughout the years. Immigration causes 3 major things to happen to natural resources. First, a large amount of immigration leads to a greater use of natural resources. Second it causes prices of raw materials to rise. Third, it requires creating timely and costly research for diplomatic solutions to substitute the materials. Immigrants that come to the U. S. will obviously be looking for work. With unemployment rates increasing there won’t be work for a large portion of U. S. citizens. The idea that immigrants take Jobs that Americans don’t want to do is completely wrong. American workers are being replaced by immigrants who are willing to work for lower wages. This put out a lot of American-born citizens out of work. I wish I could go back soon. It was may 20, 1995 when I went to my grandparents home to see them for the last time. I was crying when I told them I am going to come here in the United States. As soon they heard what I just said; they both hugged me and began to cry with me. I was so sad that I couldnt get through the door to leave. I stayed with them for almost the whole night. Finally, when the time to leave was coming, I left them. My friends are so nice with me that it was so hard to tell them bye. They were sad as I was because we have to separate each others. I missed them a lot. Specially, I missed them when I go to play soccer with my new friends that I made here. We used to play soccer in the Plaza. I have so many relatives that are living in Mexico, and I really want to visit them. I hope I could go in Christmas. I remember how they got when I went to their home to say bye. They were a little bit upset with me because they said that I was leaving them alone. My relatives and I have such a good relationship. I love them a lot. The day May 20,1995, I wouldnt ever forget.
